2017: October Picks

Since i barely post here i've decided to start trying to actually stick to what this blog was made for; to share good music. Every month i'm going to post my favourite releases / songs of that month. I know November is almost over (where the hell did the time go? I'm terrified), but i thought i'd just post for October anyway.

Just a note that i'm not going to only post things that were released in this month, but also songs / releases i got into and enjoyed. So basically old ass releases may be included.

볼빨간사춘기 - Red Diary Page.1 (Album)

Tracks i kept

1. 썸 탈꺼야 9/10
2. Blue 8.5/10
3. 상상 7/10
4. 나의 사춘기에게 9/10

Although this mini album does not top their first album (사운날 is still my favourite song from them),  this album really was a nice listen. i think i just deleted one song off of this, cause it was just too, i hate this word, basic. The first song, 'Riding on some' (i really don't know how to translate this title i'm sorry), is a great upbeat song for fall. It's a very good song with a great vocal melody. It's definitely been done before, but they put their own colours in it and made it into a song worth listening to more than a few times.

Blue is a really nice chill song. I love how 'blue' it sounds. It's very simple, and i wish they layered it a bit more, but it's just enough for it to be a good track. Imagination, the third track i listed, is a bit typical. Actually i barely listen to it and may end up deleting it one day. It's a cute song though, but it's definitely over done within k-indie especially.

The last song, "To my youth," is definitely my favourite. At first i thought the first song was the best song on this release, but "To my youth" really stole my heart with its lyrics. It's so relatable, and although it not getting a music video (the first three songs on this album), it did very well on the charts, the second best charting song on this album.

Overall, i think this is an album worth listening to.

BeWhy - The Blind Star (Album)

Tracks I kept

1. Bichael Yackson 7.5/10
2. 휴게소 8/10
3. Where Am I (Feat. Gaeko) 9/10
4. My Star 7/10
5. Wright Brothers (Feat. C Jamm) 10/10
6. Dejavu (Re-mastering) 8/10

BeWhy finally came out with a full length album, which i have been waiting for since last year when he won SMTM 5 (very well deserved, one of the first winners that actually had amazing skills all around). His first album was very good, so I couldn't wait for this. Even the track he released with Cjamm last summer, "Puzzle," was really good.

Although this album isn't as good, it's still a good release. This album came out in two parts, and honestly, when the first part was released i really though BeWhy's sound has changed for the worst. i liked BeWhy because his sound was more sincere and distinctive. The part part of this album is a wannabe swag k-hip-hop ear sore, especially the song he did was Dok2 (figures). When the second part was released though, my hope was restored. Yes, just my hope, because it doesn't come near to the lyrical masterpieces on his last album such as "Time keeps going on" and "자화상."

Honestly, i deleted 'Bichael Yackson' right when i heard it but for some reason r-downloaded it this week because of a video of him performing it live. The song is still a bit of an ear-sore (i'm really not into noisy over produced songs if you couldn't tell by now), but it's a jam and i would also go crazy if i was there while he performed this live. This is the ONLY song i kept from the first part (basically first half) of this album.

The other songs i kept are all nice, but only Where Am I and Wright Brothers are worth praising and recommending. I honestly didn't realize how good Wright Brothers was until it came on while i was driving... damn... a song and a half. Where Am I is just a really feel good track, and Gaeko does a great job featuring on it (as he always does).

Black Nine - 거울 (Feat. 우원재, Ann One)  (Single)

Black Nine was one of the people, along side Woo Wonjae and Haengzoo, i was rooting for, and am always supporting, during SMTM 6. This song suits him really well, and i'm so glad we got a collab with Wonjae this fast. Their friendship on SMTM 6 brought me to tears, very ugly tears, but cute ones okay.

The lyrics of this song are so comforting, the chorus ends with "All i want is one believer, you in the mirror." It's so powerful, and i love it. I'm sad this song didn't perform well on the charts. Yoon Mirae helped produce it (Black nine is under feel good music), and they had Wonjae and Ann One feature so it seemed they put a lot of effort into this, but it was nowhere to be found on the charts. Although i'm not really surprised, i'm still sad.

Sandeul - 그렇게 있어 줘 (Single)

Yes, i know this song was released like... over a year ago? But i just downloaded it last month... Yes i am a B1A4 stan, i swear i am... but i didn't really care for this mini album at all, and although i thought this song was god on first listen, i was too lazy to download it. Probably was too busy listening to WINGS since thats basically all i listened to since last October... I'm sorry Sandeul.

Anyways, this is a really great ballad. We use to always get great ballads back in the day, but now it's hard to find ones that really leave a presence. The build up of this track is stellar, I LOVE ballads that build up this way, and the chorus gives me goosebumps, actually the vocal melody throughout tis whole song is so on point. The person who arranged this song deserves an award. They knew what they were doing, cause this song just hits you right in the heart, and Sandeuls voice being the BEST idol vocal to exist (this isn't biased, it's a fact, and vocal critics all agree), just makes this song a perfect piece of WORK.
